Welcome back for another Wednesday's WOYWW  - the pre-crop edition. Have managed to book train tickets now just need to decide what I am going to bring to craft with at the crop!   Will be trying to travel light for once....ha ha!

I spent some time at the weekend trying to get my Dina gloss sprays to  er-  spray -  and created a few backgrounds that may or may not make an appearance on Saturday depending on what makes the suitcase!
I was rummaging through the box of pre-stamped Dina images and collaged a journal page together,  as I was determined to have something to share this week for a change!

Last Saturday was the final Kew early opening of the season (well it runs to the 30th )  and of course I was there for that

will really miss the gorgeous low light in future weeks

I'll be really busy at work today (partly because of having a couple of days off but mostly because of the crazy things happening in the mortgage market at present meaning we are madly busy)  so won't be visiting until after I get home,  but happy WOYWW and see you then!

Really looking forward to the crop, too, and catching up with those of you able to make it.

Morning deskers.  Happy WOYWW to you all.

I feel since last week all I have done is watch TV - I certainly haven't been crafting!

I found myself watching the live stream of the Lying in State for ages, on and off.  I didn't manage to catch sight of Sarah though!  I hope your feet have stopped aching Sarah!

The coverage of our wonderful Queen's funeral was just perfect and all the people who took part and organised it should be very proud of the show they put on.  Britain really does do pageantry and pomp well.  I barely moved all day.

so, I don't really have a desk for you this week, it's another staged one

I bought another paper today  (Tuesday as I write this) which was as you'd expect, full of photographs from the day.

the pall bearers who carried the coffin at various stages were amazing

but perhaps the most impressive were the sailors of the Royal Navy who pulled the Gun Carriage Perfectly in time, not a foot out of place.
I still have the funeral march music in my head as I look at this picture.

this is an image I borrowed from the official press photos.

Saturday morning was Kew

thanks for looking - I will try and having some crafting to show by next week!!

Happy Desk Day -  a week since we last met, but what a week it's been!

The news from Balmoral was sudden and devastating and since then I have done little but watch the coverage of the events, well planned, heartfelt, incredibly moving, and just right.  I was surprised at how affected I was by the news, after all, 96 is a great age and it wasn't totally unexpected.  But somehow, I think we all thought Her Majesty would go on  - if not forever, well, for longer! I feel so very sorry for King Charles and the rest of the Royal Family having to grieve in the glare of the world's media and send them my sincere condolences.

My desk today is unashamedly staged!

I don't usually buy newspaper any more, but wanted to have something to keep.

You may have seen I took to my journal after paying my respects at Buckingham Palace on Saturday morning

my A4 Seawhite journal, one of my favourite stencils, and a simple message.

Whilst at Buckingham Palace, I got spotted on BBC news...

I had been watching to the presenter, John Maguire, interviewing visitors but hadn't realised I was in shot, till a work colleague What's App'd me

I haven't totally decided if I am going to go up to London again to stand in what is going to be a very long queue to pass the Queen's coffin lying in state.  I think not, probably.  I know that Sarah is and wish her well.

I did also follow on to Kew from London

Remembering Her Majesty

The news on Thursday of the death of Queen Elizabeth II came suddenly, if not unexpected, given her magnificent age, and  I have like so  many since, been feeling very strange.  It is such a big adjustment to have a King not a Queen, so many of us  knew no other monarch than Queen Elizabeth.

I went to London yesterday to pay my respects and - well, to just be there, it felt like something I needed to do.  The atmosphere outside Buckingham Palace even at 7.30  in the morning, was unlike nothing I have felt before.  There was a quiet, almost hushed feeling,  Many people leaving tributes and others like me, just wanting to be there.  there are some photos on my other blog if you are interested

Today, I took to my journal.

The Queen was known for her strong Christian beliefs throughout her life, and whilst I do not necessarily share them, this is one of my favourite stencils, (Stencil Girl)  and I wanted to use it for my backdrop to the postcard I bought yesterday  (I don't have a printer to copy one of the many thousands of images that have been shared since her death, and I didn't want to cut one out of the paper I bought as a memento of this sad time)

We will never see the like of Queen Elizabeth again, but I think we are in safe hands with King Charles III (how odd does that sound, it still doesn't seem real, although watching the TV coverage of the coffin leaving Balmoral this morning, it is sinking in)

I send the entire Royal Family my sincere condolences (as you have to grieve in public) at this sad time.

 Rest in Peace, Your Majesty.

Morning  deskers, time for another week's WOYWW     We're edging closer to our crop, I must do some travel sorting!!   I have accommodation sorted thanks to Julia but right now no idea how I'm getting there.

But first, some crafting!  I was watching YouTube on Sunday morning as I often do, in bed on my phone (useless, screen is too small for that really but I don't have a tablet or laptop). Anyhow, I saw something that inspired me and I was up and at it!

the background on the journal page already had a gloss spray of the flowery stencil on it and I just went in over the top with more stencilled layers

it is a very loose interpretation of my visit to the Tower of London to see the Superbloom planting for the Queen's jubilee.  (pics of the real thing here)

I even used the foam alphabet stamps (Tim Holtz) for the first time yay!

then later on another page,

again, some of the pink background was already down,  leftover from something or other.

the faces were already stamped from an earlier session (a Dina Wakley supporter demo probably)

Had another lovely visit to Kew on Saturday - a first real taste of autumn mist in the air, just gorgeous!  pics here

and as I shared to FB at the time - double shadows just for Julia!  (my buddy Kim from the regulars group on the left, me on the right)

both equally laden with camera equipment!

Thanks for looking, happy Wednesday.

WOYWW 691 - a (very) brief moment of fame

Once more we meet for WOYWW with Julia and the deskers

I'l l start with my desk - floor -

despite having a Bank Holiday weekend and an extra day,  I didn't spend any time crafting...

I took this waiting for the Channel 5 programme about Kew to start...

I sat poised with my phone to capture my moment of fame...good job you can rewind live TV these days -  I kept missing it -

At the front of the queue, (in the blue hat)  posting to Facebook no doubt!
and then they finally got to the bit about the orchids (there was some earlier stuff about the building of the display which was really interesting)  but I really can't believe they got me to sign a release agreement for this!

good job I'd taken my hat off inside in the heat or you'd probably not know it was me...

and then last weekend at Kew - quite a bit warmer than in February!!

Wednesday, 24 August 2022

Welcome along for week 690 of WOYWW .    We're looking forward to the crop too

I started another journal page in the large Kraft journal

gesso, gloss sprays,  stencilling
the scribbly writing is pieces of Dina's collage tissue,

stamped images
and a desk.. floor space.

my knees/legs won't take working on the floor much longer and I really will need to work out a proper desk !

Last weekend the bus and train strike prevented getting to Kew on my normal Saturday but by Sunday transport was playing nicely and I went to Kew then instead - met up with  Kim, one of the other regulars too
photos - here.

This weekend the bus strike isn't until Sunday and Monday so it's back to normal.
this bed featured heavily on this week's Channel 5 programme at Kew - the parterre beds in front of the Palm House - the one that is always my blog opening shot
and I played with the globe lens and the mirror installation.

Next week's Kew programme is the one I'll be in -  I really doubt it will be more than 30 seconds but it'll be quite exciting!

Thanks for looking and see you soon  - we're a bit thin on the ground at work with holidays and stuff, so doubt I'll get to visit anyone at lunchtime, but will be round for the early birds or later on!
Happy WOYWW

Wednesday, 17 August 2022

Welcome back for another WOYWW -I'm writing this on Tuesday evening where it has cooled down sufficiently to be wearing proper clothes!

I cut out the faces from last week and added them to a journal page -  as usual it's a work in progress, I meant to finish it this evening but was watching Kew, a Year in Bloom on Channel 5

I've had an email from the production company to say I'll be included in the episode going out on 30th August (the orchid one)  eek!

It was hot as they promised at Kew last Saturday - pics here

(I left when it hit about 30 degrees around 11.30)

and as I mentioned I had another time slot at the Tower for Superbloom - as they have been talking about on social media, the heat has done for a lot of the flowers and there wasn't much left to see (unless like me you like seedheads!)  Pics of those here

the cosmos were good though, and the sunflowers

I left there when it hit 30 degrees too! 10.30 in the morning....

thanks for looking and happy WOYWW

Wednesday, 10 August 2022

Wow, Wednesday again already!  Time for another get together at the Stamping-Ground for WOYWW...

I hope you're all keeping well and surviving the heat.  Not happy to see the temperatures creeping up again this week!

so this week I bought some (more) new stamps launched by Dina Wakley on the 1st.

I stamped them on some cardstock
and then used one of the faces in a journal page
slightly staged shot whilst watching the closing ceremony of the Commonwealth Games - have really enjoyed watching, mostly the athletics, but also the diving  and I caught some highlights before I went to Kew last Saturday of the rhythmic gymnastics which was fabulous

this is a close up from the shot above... one of the sets of stamps over a painted swatch.
the intention was to have it in a journal page by now.... ah well.

Not my idea, saw it on you-tube.

and finally, if you didn't see it on Saturday, the link for last week at Kew.

hibiscus, the size of a dinner plate, growing outside the Palm House.

I'll be round when i can  - but may be later than usual as it is hair cut/colour after work so I'll be home late.

Wednesday, 3 August 2022

Wednesday again, can only mean one thing -  time for WOYWW with Julia and the gang.

Thanks for all the comments last week

I had a couple of cards that I needed to make last week, so have actually something to share today!

I started with Dina Wakley paints sponged through a stencil (Paperartsy)

I knew I wanted something over the top
so added some Posca paint pen doodling

one of these is a birthday card and the other an anniversary card for my brother and SIL

I also played in my A5 journal too

distress oxide stencilling and stamping in similar toned archival inks

I was delighted to get back to Kew on Saturday after my covid absence -  photos here
don't you just love this sunflower!!

Thanks for looking, and happy WOYWW .  I'll be over soon!

Wednesday, 27 July 2022

Happy Wednesday deskers!  It's been another quiet week here, no crafting done again - but time for WOYWW  despite that.   I had to work from home all of last week due to Covid - but it was a very mild dose and I didn't really feel ill at all, luckily.

I am back at work now,  still tested positive on Sunday but got a call Monday to say go to the office as I was symptom free.  I've gone back to masks on buses and in shops though, better safe than sorry.  I was obviously getting complacent up in London playing tourist.

So, let's see what I can share this week, as I haven't got any crafting...

so some pics of some of my stamp storage  along the wall...
I've shared them before, and you can't tell that the wooden Ikea boxes which are stacked 4 high in places are double stacked in front of one another (and no, I don't use the contents of them often!)
and the "desk"  space.  journals still sat on the craft mat,  tickets from London still on the mat,  piles of ink pads and paints all over the place...

I can't even share a link to Kew as I didn't go on Saturday - whilst by then I'd isolated for 5 or 6 days, I decided to stay home
It felt so weird not getting up at 5 and heading out soon after 6.

the one good thing about working from home was not having to step outside during the 2 days of the 40 degree heat even though I was failing to stay cool working!

Thanks for stopping by and this week I will be at Kew, come sun, rain, snow, hail, whatever!

Wednesday, 20 July 2022

Hello, welcome to WOYWW  time to join Julia and the gang again - there is even less on my "desk" this week..

two reasons - one several of you saw on FB -

yep, it got me!  tested on Sunday after feeling when I got home from Kew on Saturday that I had a cold, sore throat... but no...
I reckon it must have been Wednesday, in London that I caught it, it was one of the hot days when I only wore the mask on trains, not inside the Abbey or anywhere else....

so I've been isolating at home, and now working from home,...

the hottest day ever in the UK  so this is my workspace today (well Tuesday as I write this)  ...

it's been following me around the room trying to blow air - hotter than I would like - at me...

the only plus side of working from home is that i didn't have to go outside to get TO or from work!

I'm hoping it will go soon - I don't feel bad now, the first day was pretty coldy but no aches and now it's like the end of a normal cold.

so hopefully I will be negative by Saturday or I will have to miss Kew!

so I'll leave you with the link to Kew from last Saturday

and a happy sunflower to cheer us all up.

Wednesday, 13 July 2022

Welcome to another week's sharing of our crafty workspaces.... mine is bare... well not bare

but shows signs of where I've been spending my time that I've had off work

I haven't done so much as pick up an ink pad all week

I have been here -

twice!  Saturday and Tuesday
(Kew, obviously)

and here
(Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival) - last Thursday

and here
Superbloom at the Tower of London - a spectacular display for the Platinum Jubilee)

and here

St Paul's Cathedral   (Monday)

each day out has a post on my photosbyh blog if you have time - but there are lots of photos on each one!

and by the time you read this I will probably be somewhere else, or on the way somewhere else, for my last day off before returning to work

not sure yet where!

the days out have been shorter than I would normally do as we are in the grips of a heatwave and I wanted to be home before the intense heat each day (apart from Hampton Court when I was out longer )

Back to work on Thursday, till then Happy WOYWW  and see you at Julia's
