ANOTHER WOYWW????? already??

So, here we are again then! One week to go to the WOYWWAC (no, still not done anything constructive for it...) - what?  You don't know what I'm talking about?  Check it out over at Julia's . I warn you, it's addictive and will take a long time (enjoyable, entertaining, the best day of the week.... but long!!)  I haven't got anything crafty made this week yet, cos I've been watching the tv coverage of the Chelsea Flower Show!  If you've checked out my other (photo) blog, you may have spotted my obsession with gardens!

Anyhow, what is on my workdesk-on-the-floor today? (ok, you know me now, Tuesday night?) Not a lot, not a lot. My lovely craft spinner is just off to the top right, there are some gaps in it, need to buy more blending tools! But I've been good this week, not bought anything new at all!

Ok, back to the "desk".  A couple of reject bits of torn paper from Hels' Sunday Stampers challenge and a half done coaster I was going to use said torn paper on.... no, twas no good so had to start again.

The newspaper cutting I saw in the paper this morning and I thought I could use it for - something - so cut it out to bring home.  Now it's all crumpled (you may well ask why I didn't leave cutting it out till I got home - yes, I thought of that, but also knew I'd just forget and chuck the paper in the recycling before I remembered.... call it old age!)

So, as there isn't anything very interesting today, I've opened another drawer I don't think has been famous before - my script stamp drawer (apart from  the ones that don't fit and are on the (one of the) overflow piles on the floor workspace!

I love the one bottom right in the drawer - it's gorgeous! (it's by A Stamp in the Hand).

Oh, I'm thinking of buying a Big Shot - of those of you who have one, are they worth it? Are they easy to use? (I won't be getting the electric one!) Would love to hear your thoughts.

Okey-dokey, that's me for today. Can't wait to see what you all have got on show today, so I'm off for a hop! Happy Wednesday, girls.

Just love all those script stamps, lucky you. I've had a big shot for around 4 years and wouldn't be without it, although I would recommend the electric one. Having used both, the electric one wins hands down.

Wow, what gorgeous script stamps...very jealous!!! x

You're a very tidy worker.

Big Shot...hmmm...its ok...it does what it promises and does it well...all depends whether you would use those bits and bobs. Good to have one 'just incase'. Its one of those things that I thought would open up all sorts of avenues for me but my style doesnt really bend to die cutting or embossing as much as I'd thought it might lol.

Do you know considering that I don't do much altery-y or TH style stuff, I have a bit of a thing for newspaper cuttings - but have none as lovley as this..good find! We share a passion for script too - sadly I spot two I haven't got!

Hi Helen, I have a BigShot and I quite like mine especially as I am using the Tim Holtz Alterations dies quite a bit. It does what it's supposed to and its simple and that's what I like, simple LOL. Great desk this week and love those stamps. Tracy Evans x

I have practically no stamps, but I always look at script stamps whenever I'm at a stamp store. They have that certain appeal. Hope to see more of your "floor" next week. Happy WOYWW.

beautiful stamps! I recently bought a sizzix...I think it would be worth the money if I used it more often lol. It's definitely easy to use, and really neat. Overall...Yes, it's probably worth it if you give it the love it deserves :P

Mummylade said...

I so recognize that "I might use it, let's save it" mentality =). I have a cuttlebug and that works for me, though the big shot is prettier =)

JoFY said...

Big Shot vs Cuttlebug - thats a tough one... I was a Cuttlebug fan through and through - love its poratability and that it suckers to the table when its doors are open and it very versatile.... and then I bought a Big Shot... and it does everything that the Cuttlebug does but smoother and it feels a bit more sturdier. So, I'm converted to the Big Shot (or bertha as mine is now called) BUT I won't through my bug out- they'll just work along side each other. ooh and cost of dies is another consideration - sizzix work out a little more expensive but the die is deeper so will cut through more stuff.... oooh its swings and roundabouts...
I hope my little bit of input has helped in some way... good luck with choosing...

Hi H, yes get a big shot I totally recommend it (if you don't know I have my own designer die cuts shop and design my own dies too and Garry does all the cutting Die cut Dreams) we have 3 big shots and they are brilliant
Sizzix have just bought out the new Big shot Pro (which is what you read that I got for Garry)its a really big one !!! but if your just starting out I think a normal big shot is what you need, you can't go wrong they cut most dies. If you're looking at where to buy it check out "Cutting edge crafts" they have great prices and free post to I always use them
Well good luck
Hugs Susie xx

That is a fabulous newspaper cutting, and the more crumpled the better... it's distressed!! I have a bug, but on the Artsy Crafts weekend we used the big shot. It's bigger, so that might be a consideration if space is a problem. Apparently it cuts through metal better than the bug, although I have used the bug with nesties and it seems to work fine. Not much help really, am I? lol

Hi Helen, I have a Cuttlebug but did have a Bigshot, I sold it to a friend and have regretted it ever since. They are great for larger dies and they do give a clear cut image.

Love your drawer full of scrummy stamps, so tidy!

Thanks for showing us all,

hugs heidi xx

Helen Script stamps are lovely.I have a couple-but not as lovely as yours.I own a wizard and this is because I needed something sturdy after wearing out the original Sizzix and breaking a Zip e mate (no longer available)but the Wizard does take some getting used to. Don't have any huge dies so can't say if they go through ok but it won't take the really long ones that go in the tiny thing-duh can't think what it's called. Then there's Mr Big The Accucut Mark IV but I did get that before the little ones came along and it isn't very cost effective for me LOL Hugs BettyXXX
Try to actually use some before you buy.

Love your draws!! (of stamps!!) I have the'old' big shot, they turned black and pink about a month after I got mine (from mum for my birthday) it's been fabulous!! Just wish there was something closer that sold all the things you can buy for it,and show me what it can do, because |I only have a few die cuts... it also cuts other dies too, (nesties extra) I haven't got the proper add on whatever it is, but use extra card and it works fine
Have a crafty day

My script stamps are faves too. I think we have a few in common Helen!! I am a new owner of a big shot. It seems to cut better than my bug with dies. There is better pressure and I think it's more even. I tend to use the bug to emboss and mr big to cut. You *need* them both!! Lol. Leandra

Lori said...

Love script stamps, but I don't have enough to devote a whole DRAWER to them. lol. I have the Big Kick, which is the same thing as the Big Shot. I love it. Cutting, embossing (metal, too!). One of the essential tools I have, I think.

Thanks for the snoop, I would highly recommend the big shot (I pretty much have all of the machines) and I tend to use just the Big Shot these days - I have the very, very, old and original turquoise and black one, but the new ones also look great and come with the tabbed cutting plate for working with Nesties and other thin dies too. I would have to say that if I had a choice I would have the electric one (Jen has just got one), but only because I cut out lots and lots on it and it would make my life easier, but for general use the hand one is fine.

Go for it girl!!!

Glen said...

Loved the snoop in your stamp drawers Helen. I don't have a Big Shot so I can't comment but I'm happy to share yours! *Ü* TFS. ~Glen~
