This time next week I will have been to the Paperartsy Seth Apter workshop in Brentwood. Can't wait!! So I have had a little play with some of Seth's products - stamps and stencils, not the dies yet - to get me in the mood.
I started with a journal page and some leftover Fresco paints as my starting point
colours were Bubblegum, Tango and Bougainvillea, and a bit of gesso to knock it back a bit.
I used some of the new JoFY minis in the background with toning archival inks (vibrant fuschia, monarch orange, cactus flower) and then some of Seth's stamps from his Paperartsy release (fab, fab fab!) in the same, and watering can and black (text)
I edged the page with Little Black Dress Fresco as I felt it needed some more black (the only black is from the text,
I used the little dotty pattern from Lin Brown's new set in the middle of the circles.
and some white splatters.
Next up, is a canvas, 9x12 I decided just to use shades of turquoise-greeny colours.
I applied a layer of heavy gesso to the canvas with a palette knife, more or less smoothing it out but leaving some texture.
Whilst it was not quite dry, I added a few drips of Beach Hut Fresco and brayered it out into the gesso. Did the same with Mermaid..
Once dry, added a light brushing of normal gesso,
before going in with stencils - all by Seth for Stencil Girl... I used Beach Hut and South Pacific, and kept going and going..
using just the same colours makes it full but not too busy.
I decided not to add any die cuts, mainly because I was on a roll on the canvas and didn't want to switch to making backgrounds on card to cut, (next time!) but I think it would be improved with some more layers of texture....
I added some bright green stamping - vivid chartreuse - and the bubble wrap stamp on Seth's set.
Used Pea Coat with the starred circle, for a bit of a darker colour, and then South Pacific all round the edge to frame it...
and finally, decided it needed some black, so got one of the stencils out again.
really happy with this - although who knows, I may yet add some more layers with some die cuts and more paint another day... for now, it's done!
Thanks for looking. Can't wait for the workshop next Saturday!
