WOYWW 198

Happy Wednesday desk sharing to you all!  Head to Julia's gaff at the Stamping-Ground for the low-down and link up...

The news this week is that I do have a desk.... however before you all fall off your perches, it's not a craft desk- apart from the sloping front, it is much to beautiful! - I will still be crafting on the floor - but a much loved desk that belonged to my Dad and that I always always said I wanted after he'd died.... finally, now it is here, at home with me - some of you know that my brother and I are in the process of clearing/decorating with a view to sell or rent out, my late parents' house and last weekend, we brought it home to Sutton. Here it is, in my bedroom.. reminding me of Dad, every time I see it!
it's made from mahogany and is very heavy! inside are loads of little compartments for ink and pens and stuff.
there are doors at either side with more trays for stuff!  so far it's still empty!  Getting it into and out of my brother's car and up the stairs to my first floor maisonette was interesting, to say the least!
Isn't it gorgeous!

I've had lots of happy mail since we last met - I was lucky enough to win one of Neil's new stamps in his recent giveaway - how cool is this!

Then there was a Tando prize from the recent Craft Stamper magazine's blog hop that I won. (my choice of goodies)

and finally a large pile of unexpected stash enclosed with a few sheets of cardstock from my blog & twitter friend Sam who'd just been the the UK skiing and sent me some extras - naughty girl! but how lovely is this lot! Chip pieces, foam pads (I was running out too!) and lots of little packets of embellishments of all sorts. Soooo kind, Sam!!

So, that's me this week - what do you have on your desk?  I'll be round to check up on you...

Looks like you’ve been a very lucky girly this week Helen, you have lots of new goodies to play with. I love weeks like that, when the postie can’t stay away….fine as long as it’s not bills he’s bringing.
And what a beautiful desk, and so many memories. I’m sure you’ve made the right decision not to craft on it, especially if you’re a messy a crafter as me.
Happy Crafting!

That is one seriously LOVELY, LOVELY desk. I can see why you wanted it.

Looks like you made a haul in giveaways. How great for you. Congrats.

What a lovely treasure for you. The desk is beautiful. I feel for you, cleaning out a home is so hard. We've a lot yet to do also. I did this 3 months and had to quit, waiting for siblings to help with what's left.
How lucky to get such fun stuff to play with too. Have fun, and enjoy some fun time.

Oh what a lovely story, and a beautiful desk. I own a joinery company and we make specialist furniture as well as other things from wood obviously, but you can't beat a lovely old bit of furniture particuarly when it is connected to such a lovely sentiment.

Well done on your candy too.

I am visiting all the 8 ending numbers and you are first on my list

Hi Helen - your 'new' desk looks fab, and will be a lovely reminder of your Dad. When mine died, I had his car which I later scrapped, when it was no longer viable. With the proceeds, I bought my Cuttlebug and called it Harry, so I still have a tangible reminder of Dad. I know it would make him smile. Thanks for visiting for WOYWW, and have a great week. x

That is one gorgeous desk and I do hope you manage to avoid getting it too inky. Though, no point in having it if you don't use it ey!
Lucky you with all those goodies.

Funny, I don't immediately think of furniture as having a strong memory tickler, but now I consider it, I can think of a few pieces in my parents house that give me a warm glow :) And with your luck, I hope you are playing the lottery!

That is a beautiful desk, and I don't blame you for treasuring it, apart from its memories of your Dad. You are such a lucky girl this week, not only a gorgeous desk but all that wonderful stash to enjoy. By the way, the malt bread is even nicer the day after, it is getting stickier. I will certainly repeat that recipe. Incidentally there was a mistake on the printed recipe, it looked like 10 oz of butter. Being badly printed, it was actually 1 oz butter.

Pretty desk. I'm thinking it will give you much comfort and lots inspiration to work on it. Congratulations on your winnings. Sue #126

Oh gosh, Helen, that desk is fabulous - I feel an episode of desk envy coming on! The perfect heirloom and a great reminder of your dad. And, yes, much too good for actually crafting on but sounds perfect for storing stash - the non-messy variety. Your happy mail looks fab too - I like the look of all those stamps. Hope you are having a happy WOYWW, Elizabeth x #55

That desk is beautiful! it sounds like it would make a lovely craft desk but it's probably safer not to get paint near it I guess!!

Absolutely adore your new desk, so lovely to have things from our late Dads to remind us of them.

Super wins too.

You'll notice I am somewhat late this week as our ISP was down ALL day leaving me high and dry, oh well all seems OK now.

Looking forward to craft club on 2nd, I'll just bring me and a couple of coaster blanks. Do I need glues and other stuff though?

I can actually feel the softness and strength of the wood under my cyber hand. I'm so, so happy for you that you were able to get it up the stairs and into a place where you can see it and touch it every single day! What a blessing!!

A beautiful desk Helen. How fabulous to have such happy memories literally under your hand.
I still remember my grandmother's bedroom suite that was a wedding gift from 1919. I loved the big dressing table and used to play at it as a child. We had to sell it when she died as it was made for a bigger house and we lived in new, smaller houses.
I still love antique furniture and have never seen a set like hers ever again. It was gorgeous.

Oh Helen, your desk is absolutely precious! But yes, at this point, I don't see how you can abandon your floorwork. It is you! And you do beautiful work. I'm so happy for your prize winnings! Isn't it fun to win things? I have actually won 4 or 5 things in the past two months--including a shopping spree on a craft website, a yankee candle, and a Starbucks card! Back again...forgot to say that your Dad's desk is marvelous...well worth struggling to get it into your maisonette. Not sure what a maisonette is though!

The lines of your desk are so wonderful and I liked that you instantly saw what you would keep in there.
