Be prepared to fail - and share them!

So, yesterday Michelle shared a fabulous, Dina Wakley based journal page at Paperartsy. Her page looked gorgeous, lots of lovely stencils and bright paints - and therein I think, lies my problem....

This page is my second attempt at a version of this - the first one I even tore out of the journal...!!!

I think, second time round, I put too little white paint on after I'd done my stencilling (the first time, too much, among other problems!) I wish I'd thought about that before I went further ... ah, hindsight!!!  I think maybe I should have not attempted the drippage either...

Anyhow, I offer it up for your perusal and lessons - don't do what I did - though  in fact it looks better here on the screen than it does in the artificial light at home, so maybe tomorrow in daylight it may grow on me!  My journalling reads "this is the worst page I have ever done. I really don't like how it's come out at all' 'and I have already messed one page up so much I tore it out of the book'  I am still debating about whether to hit publish on this post, but...

(** Edit - thank you for all your encouraging comments! it is growing on me, I promise!  I will use the previous, torn out page for something - die cuts maybe! (the main issue I had with the last one was the colour I used for the paint round the hearts, it was totally wrong. I should have tried painting over the top of it!)

I actually like it ... well what I can see from the photo....but you have to feel happy with it...I know that if it doesn't feel right it does not matter what others think.xx

Your page is not that bad Helen and does it really matter, its only paper after all. I often make things that am unhappy about and then cut them up for future journal pages. Remember there is always tomorrow for a Masterpiece.....

I really love the hearts standing out from their purply shadows, and the stamping looks great... Hope it does grow on you in the daylight because although it may not be what you had in your head when you started, I think it's a really strong page as it stands.

Oh don't rip it out Helen I think it's fantastic in fact I love it! I love how bright and zingy it is and whilst I appreciate it's different from your usual style, trying out different things always provides a fun learning curve. I can't believe you ripped a page out you naughty lady in that situation I always believe in layers, if you don't like it put a layer of gesso over the top (not too heavy so you can still see the original underneath) and then continue to work on it - beat it into submission woman even if you need a big stick!

LOL....I have a page in my journal I really don't like and it never "grew" on me, but it is the back of an other page I like, so I'm stuck with it. Oh well, we all have them, but not always brave enough to share......
KUDOS to you girlfriend for sharing....

It's a good take on Michelle's project, and whether you like it or not you've gained experience !that's what I tell myself anyway...

It's fab & bold, I love the hearts & white writing. Maybe you shouldn't have added the green, but hey...it's YOUR journal Helen! I believe our journals are where we can experiment.
Have a happy weekend,
Alison xx

You know what Helen I really love it! It's expressive and colourful. The green really works well with the other colours and I maybe would have used more of it, perhaps the same green as drippage too, will look fab. Just random ones not too many. I love it, you should be proud of it. Michelle x

I hope you kept it Helen, I love it and I even thought your journalling was a stamp!
