WOYWW 595

Time to assemble and report for desk duty once more.. Julia is waiting at the Stamping-Ground for us..

I had a little play with the crackling campfire ink pad over  some strips of collage tissue

over the tissue, I added a layer of gesso and then added some texture paste through the stencil of the faces. (stencil and tissue by Dina Wakley)

I did add some crackle paste before the faces but it's not crackled hence adding the faces.  I tried another pot of crackle paste... that had dried up....

I used the crackling campfire and picked raspberry distress oxides, spritzed with water and blotted.   Neet is right, she commented last week to say what a strong colour that orange is!  It's ok blotted off though.

at that point I stopped,  will add more to it at some stage

Just before I went to bed on Sunday I put in an order with Stampers Grove for some more stencils (ok, so I have an addiction!)  having watched a lot of you tube videos on Sunday when I kept seeing stencils I liked... some of which I found available and some I haven't yet tracked down..

Anyhow, 10pm order submitted,  came home from work Tuesday to find...

the service from the Stampers Grove is really excellent!

and we all know, given how fast the weeks go, it will soon be the weekend and i may have time to play!

I was meant to be buying a new pot of crackle paste!!

No doubt that order will go in soon...

which just leaves me to leave you the link for Kew last Saturday - cloudy but wow the colours, I do urge you to check them out!

Looking forward to your desks - no doubt you've all been busy making Christmas cards!

Yes Christmas Helen, but also others... love stencils too, but my additions are limited because lots aren’t available here! Good for pocket if not crafty tryouts!
Happy WOYWW.

Yep, it is a strong colour, just like the glorious colours of some of the Autumnal leaves. Looks fun what you did here. Three more scraped onto the tally.

Don't you just hate it when your crackle paste doesn't crackle! Love the colours and your new stencils! I think I need morte stencils to play with my alcohol inks! Loving the autumn leaves as well - most of ours have fallen now - it's just bare trees in our garden now - a bit sad - but good to know that they will all spring back to life come March! Morning! I totally forget to visit Stampers Grove. I am so torn. While I simply adore pages I have seen using Dina Wakely stamped faces and tissue paper, I really strive to use things on my pages that are unique to me. And I am trying hard to use what I have. My current journal is really all about finding my style, testing techniques and playing without worrying too much about the pages being award winning. My NEXT journal will be more settled, maybe. I love the strong colours and miss the cascade of blazing glory along Skyline Drive in the fall. I don't miss a lot about living in the USA (except family) but every year at this time when I see one glorious tree and think about the ribbon of colour for miles, it gives me a bit of an ache. I think maybe a walk thru Stourhead might solve that, but not sure it'll happen this year!
Oops. That became an essay!
I ALSO have a pot of crackle paste dried up on my desk. Currently it had had water spritzed in it and been given a good shake for a few days running. It might be working.....

Happy WOYWW!

Oh dear, now you have found the way to get an order fast does that mean we will get even more enabling from you? Not criticising as I a terrible for ordering from James myself. Can't wait to see that face in use, it looks my kind of stencil. Saying that I use one like that a couple of times and then it gets abandoned and I think the one with nine different patterns on looks as if it will be very very useful.
Sorry I keep forgetting to visit your Kew days, I just don't know where my time goes at the moment. Will visit right now.
Hugs, Neet 13 xx

Lovely selection of stencils you chose . . . love the text one at the bottom of the photo, must admit I did go looking for it when I saw your facebook post . . . it was late at night to I gave up, but I'll be back!
Your photos from Kew were marvellous, love all the autumnal colours.
Have a good week and lots of crafting at the weekend lol

Hi Helen. I've just ordered some stencils from Stampers Grove. I have to say I think their service is second to none at the moment. Considering where they are the stuff arrives so quickly in comparison to some companies who are closer and charge more for the postage. I still find it difficult though that you have not got anything new stamps for Christmas though there's time yet! Wishing you a lovely creative woyww, Angela x18x

Very cool work.... and no, not a single Christmas card has been made. Might do a couple but otherwise, none. Too busy plying the needle!

Love the colours of the trees this time of year, and Kew is no exception with their displays.

Hi Helen, I really like that 'fireworks' stencil, thats going to become a 'must-have', I'm sure. I have a very similar stamp set, one of my 3 Stampin up stamps, lol.Got it through Fiona, when she was a demo. I've not actually tried the Crackling Campfire yet, still in it's wrapper, lol.Stay safe, have a lovely week, Hugs, Shaz #3 X

I’m not even going to look at the website or I’ll buy something that I do not need. All my pastes had dried up so I would have to buy them too. I’ll just keep sewing for now. Your work is lovely and I look forward to Kew photos each Saturday and not just for the cakes!

Hi Helen! That page is coming along nicely! I think the new colours of Distress Inks will be on my Christmas list this year! Have fun with your new stencils when they arrive! I have so many of them, I need to get back into art journaling properly! Thanks for sharing, have a great week! Lindart #28

Yep Stampers Grove give great service!! I really should use my stencils more but they will just have to join the queue! Your dried up crackle paste has reminded I check some of my media and use or get rid as most of it is quite old. Avoid disappointment that way!! Gorgeous Autumn colours, TFS. Have a good week, yep it will fly, stay well, stay safe, Cindy #19 xx

I love how you have layered that page with the stencils, Helen - the faces show in such a beautiful subtle way. I love the orange! Gorgeous autumn colours at Kew, as well.

Thank you for visiting and I'm glad you like Tiny Carpet #5 and my outfits! I've pretty much run out of summer and in-between ones now and will soon be moving on to winter woollies! Thank you for your good wishes re my appointments. I am beginning to think that in Exeter's book, I don't actually exist at all...

Happy WOYWW,

Sorry I’m late. Started the list at the other end this week! Your Kew photos are stunning.i don’t know if it’s just me being more appreciative this year, but this autumn seems to be more beautiful than recent others in my memory. I can totally see why you needed those stencils, they are very you! do you have Halloween on your mind or is it just me that looked at the page and saw faces in a fire!? It’s like a dream sequence. Bet that wasn’t where you were going with it. Made me laugh that you didn’t actually order any crackle paste!!

LuLu said...

Howdy Helen,

I don't make Christmas cards anymore but I sure do like what you did with the stencils over the DIna tissue paper. I have some of that same paper, too. I prefer the black prints - her white prints disappear in my journal layouts. Haven't figured out how I'm going to use the white ones, but the black sheetes work great for me.

I don't have a huge collection of stencils - just enough I think. But I do want to get some of the stencils from Seth Apter's line. Also, have you seen how Robin McClendon on youtube uses Seth's antique embossing powders in her 'faux' encaustic artwork? I've fallen in love with Robin's channel - even signed up for her class.

Thanks for sharing your experiments - you've inspired me to break out my texture pastes - that have been languishing in a bottom drawer for years!

Peace,
LuLu #33

Those textured faces are really haunting. If Crackling Campfire had come out at any other time of year, I wouldn't have touched it with a barge pole, but given it's autumn, I've had a glorious time making leaves and autumnal sunrise/sunset backgrounds with it. I tend to make sure there's some Vintage Photo in the mix at the same time though, which gives it a rustier tone, but still really vivid.
