Christmas Altered Art - Inspired by Leandra

I have been enjoying the Paperartsy videos recently that Leandra has been filming, showcasing their fabulous Fresco paints and Treasure Gold  and techniques and I've been working on this wooden triple icon and I think it's just about finished...

I wanted to go for a Christmas theme because I don't have room for a tree, but wanted some decoration to display.

.
I started by painting the icon blue - I used Peacoat, Baltic Blue and Sky, with some French Roast, drying and sanding between layers. I also used Treasure Gold (Aztec Gold and Aquamarine)

I wanted a starry sky kind of feel to the piece...
so used the Crafters Workshop template (Balzar Designs) mini punchinella, which has stars as one of the designs.  Applied white Snowcap Fresco paint.
I sanded the edges to get a distressed look.
Front and back.. Then used the Dylusions Ho Ho Holly template - tried with black paint first, but it didn't show up enough, so went over it with two layers of Snowcap.  You may see from the first image that I also outlined the letters with a fine black pen, which made the letters pop more.
Inside, I used some tissue tape, (Treasure Gold Indigo, wiped over it,  some sparkly stickers and a Paperartsy image that I stamped on fabric (I have been loving this for many of my Christmas cards this year, but Leandra has a fabulous video on her You-tube site which gave me loads more tips)

This stamp is from the Urban Snapshots plate YuleTide 4 and I have had it years, not sure I'd even inked it before....it was very clean!

I used hitch fasteners for the door knobs...

This was a whole heap of fun, and my thanks go to Leandra again, for the inspiration. Now I just have to find a window ledge to place it on.

Love this! What a fabulous alternative to a tree - bet you don't have to hoover under this every five minutes! I bet you won't want to put it away after the big day... I wouldn't! x
