I was staying at my Mum's house, with my brother and we had some more decorating to do (still lots more to do, but between the two of us we didn't do too badly!) no pictures of me up ladders in overalls this time though...and NO chocolate!
The Daily Mail Bungalow book is from the Ideal Home exhibition and dated 1922 and has loads of plans of bungalows - I thought I would use it in my crafts somewhere but may not be able to tear the pages out... same as the open book - which is rather grandly called The British Journal Photographic Almanac 1952 - my Dad was very keen on photography in his earlier days (mostly before we kids came along and got in the way and took all his money!) and had his own black and white (all there was then!) developing equipment. It's full of old adverts for cameras and things, and explanations of photographic terms etc. Not to mention some photos of scantily clad females...
Back here at home I had a bit of a clear out on Easter Monday - this is a pile to the left of my sofa and before I tackled it the 2 sets of drawers were on a huge pile of magazines now in the recycling bin... it doesn't look it, but this corner is LOTS better than it was!!
I also came across this folder full of Oriental type bits and pieces that I obviously bought when I was in that stage of my crafting (not really done any Oriental style things for years!!) I'd forgotten all about them... maybe they will find their way into my Altered Book (of which my lesson 5 homework is not going to get done in any hurry!)
Anyhow, this Saturday coming is the Alexandra Palace stamp show (known as Ally Pally) and I am hoping to meet up with lots of blogger/twitters most of whom I've never met before so that should be fun.... you know what that means - next week there will be NEW STASH to show you... better do some more sorting out!!!
This is meant to be a "short and sweet" link for WOYWW (What's on your Workdesk Wednesday) and it is neither short nor probably sweet so I had better go or Julia will be cross with me!

It may not have been short, but it was definitely SWEET. You can definitely use those old camera/photography pages/catalogs for your art. I am very impressed with what you saved, and even more impressed that you were able to get rid of a few things, something I'm having trouble doing. Have a great WOYWW, even though we don't have numbers, yet.
Love all your collections of goodies! Thanks for sharing and enjoy WOYWWing!

I love the cover of that Bungalow book! Really cool! Bit concerned about those photos you mentioned - your naughty dad!!! So proud you had a tidy up and look what you found!!! See you Saturday *squeals*!!!

VERY interesting Helen. Found myself moving in closer to the screen to view all your fab bits and pieces.
I tend to photocopy old book pages...I feel awful ripping pages out. That book sounds excellent.
Wish I was meeting up on Saturday. :0(
Oh Helen, you do make me smile with your "stash sorte's", looking forward to a full report on AP and what you bought.
I can understand you not wanting to take pages out of those books but you can always scan them in and use them that way. Love the cover of that Daily mail book.
Thanks for visiting me (I am always playing catch up these days)and for including your number (so much quicker and easier). Take care, Hugs, Neet #10 xx
Hi Helen! You've certainly rescued some treasures from amongst your parents' stuff. Scan them to your files so you'll have them to use over and over.
Have fun at ally Pally, wish I could get there ....
love joZarty
thanks for popping in too.
Hi Helen!
Glad you will be at ally pally - I will be looking for you! I just read in the comment above that Jozart won't be going and I was so hoping to meet her! Oh well!
Ha, ha we will have lots to show next week won't we???
Lots of hugs,
Cardarian
One of these days I'll get to AP!!
Have fun ;) I'm actually away for a country house weekend with a group of friends would you believe! Not far just the other side of Totnes.
xoxo Sioux
SWEEt - oh yeah! New stuff, stories about your beloved parents and of your dedication to the decorating...now that's all interesting to me! The books could be scanned or photocopied and aged.. I believe you have a couple ink colours that could add age to a page?! Have a great time at AP (really, this time!)!
Your bits and pieces look amazing, I'm sure you will put them to excellent use!!
Good luck with the clear out..... I just know I should do the same but just never get started...
Have a great week! #32
I can't cut up books - I bought an out of date road atlas specifically to do it, and really struggled. Mum was a librarian!
Darn, I'll miss Ally Paly AGAIN. Lots of lovely stash on your deak this week. I too have a drawer of oriental stuff that I never even think to look at :)
Happy Woyww

Oh I so wish I was coming Saturday. But our car did die a death halfway to Hastings when we were going to pick the girls up from their Nanna's. We had to be escorted home by the RAC and the girls got an extra day at Nanna's.
Annoying thing was we had a feeling it was on it's way out and had literally just paid for our new (to us) car the day before but didn't pick it up till yesterday. Cue much raiding of various savings pots - Craig's bird fund and my Ally Pally fund (only had £40 in it anyway!) Plus our splurge on my bargainous Copics... means we are now broker than broke. *sigh* Can't complain. Shiny new car and oodles of pens to play with. Will be thinking of you enviously on Saturday though :P
Wish I was going to Ally Pally too but there's too much temptation! Plus we have two dogs that would be a logistical nightmare....Love the books and ephemera on your desk, amazing what we come across, eh?
Thanks for stopping by!

Wow the books look great!!!! Hugs trace x 61
Love the bits and pieces you have collected. Almost too good to use, I learnt the hard way to scan them and then I have a continuous supply of goodies. Sandra #63
Hi Helen. Believe me - I know all about sorting out at the moment! So far I've only tackled about a third of my stuff in preparation for my move to my new craft room!! xx
Something must be in the air, so many of us are sorting out and cleaning. I bet mine won't last for long, my inner grot is just begging to come back out.
I would be too scared to pull any pages out of those books, they are so old. Do you really think you can wreck them?
Have a great week.

It's always a nightmare clearing out stuff Helen and if you are anything like me more gets kept and thrown away.
Yep, saw the match, if only more were like that. But without Peps and the reserve I'm not sure what Saturday might hold for us, there again, it might be the perfect time for young Brad to make his name.

Some great 'finds' there Helen - love the boxes. My Dad was into photography as well, used to take over the bathroom as that was the only one he could 'black-out'. Then many years later I bought a second-hand Enlarger and had a go myself at black and white work.
Enjoy ally Pally and don't forget to show and tell next week.
Thanks for sharing.

What a great collection of things you brought back. Now make sure you use it all, don't do what we all do, put it away and forget. Thank you for your visit and have a lovely week. xx Maggie #2
ah yes the best thing about tidying is finding the 'forgotten' stash, oh boy, do I desire that green print 22 Chinese paper
thanks for visiting me earlier,

lovely post, sounds like you found a lot of stuff, including great memories of your parents and their lifestyle. The oriental paper and the cards look really interesting

I'm with you, I find the neatest old books that would be so fun to craft with and then I can't bear to tear them up. My dad did B&W photography too back in the day before us kids came along and took all his money and time. He was enamored with airplanes and in the air force. He had tons of photos of air craft from his day. They were donated to an Air Museum who were tickled to get them. And I do think things look picked up in the corner you tackled for cleaning. I didn't see it before but it looks organized.
Lots of fun things, especially your dad's camera things! Enjoy your time at Ally pal! waving hi from the hills of North Carolina #50
great looking desk and I have to agree the Bungalow book is awesome! Thanks for sharing and thanks for visiting my desk this week. Have a great week. Vickie @106
