Rescuing the journal pages

I've been messing about in my journal with Dylusion sprays - I've done two double spreads one of which I am not happy with, and one which is OK.  The first one I just kept adding things to to try and disguise the bits I didn't like ... still not sure if it's worked!

This is just a big jumble.... this is how I abandoned it yesterday. Too many colours I think and too busy. Tried dulling it down with some gesso washed over.

So tonight I added some black, some writing (using India ink and one of the dipping pens I found at Mum's at Easter when we were clearing out & decorating)

The Dina Wakley images are stamped onto tissue wrap and stuck to the page. I also did some 'bumping' over the alphabet stencilling. Also splattered some india ink over the page too.
Hmmm..........

I do love the colours on these pages - Dylusions again, but I went over it with some watered down gesso which not only lightened the intensity but smudged and blended it to fill the gaps.

Then to find some images...

Stencilling - Dylusions stencils (love them!!) applied Paperartsy Fresco paint (vintage lace) and black soot distress ink for the letters.

Stamps required - time for Tim!  I love this hot air balloon, and the men from the steampunk set.  I coloured some glossy cardstock with Dylusion sprays spritzed with water, and cut the balloon out.  The 3 guys are just on plain white cardstock.

Entering this page to Simon Says Stamp and Show - anything goes - and Hels Sunday Stampers - Men - challenges.
Thanks for looking. Please tell me what else I could have done to rescue the first page (other than tear it out of the journal, except it's on the other side of the previous page that I did like...which now has pink splodges come through onto the green and yellow!)

I really like the first two pages, even though I'm not in love with that pink. I guess I'm not a pink person, but I think the way you toned it down was quite clever. It helped a lot. And the images you stamped on tissue, along with the India Ink worked very well.

love the first pages...why worry? Journals are your work, and if it goes wrong leave it to remind you, I think they are both great

Ooooo luvly jubly....sumptuous colours. The addition of the black brings it all together and takes the focus away from the vivid background so that it is all visually perfect. Also a good thing to try is to gesso through stencils over the brightness as the white cools the colours.
You are loving this journalling - I knew you would!!!

Ooh! Like how you showed how you've reworked this - its good to know that not everything works first time and that taking time out makes you see it in a different way. Inspiring x

I love the top one, I think especially so because it has your handwriting on. Makes it more personal. These journals are great as a learning curve so even if YOU don't like it (and we all do) it's good to keep them as a reminder of what you don't want to do again.

But I think they are both fab :) Love those inks!

This is looking great - the thing to remember about art journals is that you may not love every page, but it's a safe place to experiment and play. Love your playing! Didn't see your AB in my browsing, but thanks for your nice comments on mine.
