WOYWW 427 - WIP

Hi, deskers and happy WOYWW to you again. Wednesday yet again, don't they come round quick!
After a couple of days off work for the fabric workshop I mentioned briefly last week. it's back to it today!  First though, time for Julia's desk-fest  Link your craft space/desk/carpet/kitchen here..

Desk then, well, floor space, as you know I don't have a desk.

Before I went away I received a package from Country View Crafts... a paper pack (Botanicals)  like the paper dolls - some clippings stickers and a pack of the quote chips.

Just because!

Following the wedding anniversary card last week, I have made another one with the same stencilled design for a lad at work who is getting married tomorrow and I colour co-ordinated it to the wedding colours (will see at the evening reception how well I did from his description..
Here's the card
I used a Treasure Gold called Rose Quartz (I think, as one of my friends brought it on the weekend for me to borrow) to colour the stencilled gel  I did also, when I got home, add a bit of white fire which is a pale gold-y colour, over the pink, to try and get closer to the desired colour (shame you can't tip the card on the screen to see the shimmer!)
close up of the flowers, I used the same Treasure Gold on those too and put some wispy fibres and tiny dried flowers (Anna Marie Designs) and
wrapped the stems in what I used for electric blue ribbon (the colour theme being described to me as rose-gold and electric blue)

WIP?  work in progress.. the fabric book from the workshop... LOTS of work still to do but here's a sneak peak of a bit of it
this will be the front cover... before we left, Lin did sew all my wadding in place between my pages, so now I will need to add all my extra layers and embellishments with glue (hurrah!)

I would like some day to get a machine for some mixed media work (not that I used one over the weekend to see how I got on) but have NO surface available to put it so for now, it's not going to happen!
The background pages (all thin cotton/calico type fabric) were gelli-plated, so at least I've tried THAT now!
and a largely done inside page... I did some beading on the lace trim at the bottom (not going to take that up, I couldn't even see - with my reading glasses on - to thread the needle!  boy those beading needles have small eyes!)

I will do a full post with pics from the weekend and some more of my WIP - and will show the pages as I get further with them - as and when!

But had better go now, as I've run on a bit.. happy desking!

I need a 21st birthday card now, for my nephew, I saw my brother on Tuesday and he mentioned it is Will's 21st next week... think some Paperartsy monsters may come out!

That card is lovely. I am sure your office mate will be impressed. I was!

Your fabric book is coming along nicely. Most impressive. And to think this was the first time you did gelli printing, it was fabulous. Most impressed. Far more so than MY first attempts.

Let me give you some advice in the event you ever DO decide to buy a sewing machine. Buy a good quality machine. It doesn't have to be top of the line. It can be one that only sews straight and zig-zag stitches, but don't skimp on the quality. If you buy one of those "kiddie" machines, once something happens and they don't sew, or the thread jams, they cannot be fixed. You just have to throw them away and that means you are throwing your money away, too. Have a great WOYWW. I'm not playing this week, but wanted to drop by and see that fabulous fabric book you are creating.

Love the fabric book I agree with Elizabeth don't get a state of the art sewing machine, perhaps you can find a second hand one so many people buy sewing machines and never take them out of the box.
You are brave to take the wedding colour scheme description from a man!

Hi Helen, love all your work, I think using textiles is an important part of mixed media, after all paper used to be a fabric (in my mind it still is) ..monsters will be perfect for the 21st card, perhaps enhanced by an embarrassing photo ? take care happy desking dxxx #19

Hi. I'm just grabbing a quick coffee in between sewing jobs and am catching up on some of my fav blogs. I've already finished the wedding dress this morning then removed the zips from two shirt pockets and shortened the sleeves on 5 men's shirts.....it's my busiest week for a while so mustn't complain.
I really love your wedding card and it's so lovely to see some gorgeous fabrics being used today.

Hi Helen, loving the fabric book. What an unusual idea. I had the same problem at the weekend with beading needles! Bought some that said they were large eye- I don't know what they were comparing them to- microscopic eyes, probably! I found some more on Amazon, that have an eye like the wire bit on a needle threader, so that may help. Have a lovely week, Hugs, Shaz #4 XxX

Helen, your fabric book is gorgeous! You must have had great fun at the workshop. The card is lovely too, and the bouquet of flowers is fabulous. Thank you for your lovely comment - glad you like our pretty kittens! They are so adorable and such fun, and we love them more with each passing day! Also, glad you like the album. I made it in 2014 after dad died the previous December, and my niece keeps it in the fabric box I made for her when she was born. It's a real keepsake for her and she told me it contained lots of things she didn't know about her Grandad! I enjoyed making it so much because all the time I was doing it my head was filled with thoughts and memories of Dad and everything he meant to me. We were very close and I miss him so much!

Happy WOYWW,

First of all thanks for linking me, so kind of you Helen.
Glad you enjoyed the weekend - like the look of the book, especially the beaded page (after the front cover page of course) but I know what you mean about beading needles. My eyesight is getting worse with age so it is impossible for me to thread one now.
Didn't know he had brought out a Botanicals pack - is it worth buying? Mind you it will have to wait a bit if you say "yes".
Love the card for the guy at work - will take your word for it on the glimmer, we stampers can imagine and I am sure in your capable hands it is fine.
Thanks again, Hugs, Neet 3 xx

Hi Helen, I tipped and tilted the screen but still couldn't see the shimmer on your beautiful card. The wedding will be today - same day as my grandson's birthday. I love your WIP - lace and beads, what could be lovelier! Looking forward to seeing the finished project. I have a sewing machine but never use it on paper/card. Terrified of damaging it's inner gubbins. Have a great week. Elizabeth x #33

Monsters seem a good choice. Hope you are inspired for a quick make! So how did the sewing part of the workshop take you then? am impressed by what you've done, beading..all a bit slow for me to be honest. Nice way tos pend a couple days though, for sure!
