Play Date Cafe - Challenge 41 - brick red, yellow ochre and off white

This week's colours at the Play Date Cafe are a bit of a challenge in more ways than one!  They were inspired by this picture of Italy - somewhere I've never been (I am not widely travelled, unfortunately!)

I was originally thinking of a different stamp altogether (maybe Ill do that one later!) but when I went to take it out of it's drawer, I found this one by Toybox (no idea what it's called, it doesn't say on the stamp) instead.

I used Colorbox chalk ink in amber clay, on white cardstock, mounted it on a piece of black card which I spritzed with a red pearly reinker mix though there isn't enough of it to show here, I don't think, and layered that on my off white card (the box of cream cards was right at the bottom of the stack of my boxes of card stock...I had to move 5 boxes -  aren't they always at the bottom!)

I used a couple of prima flowers in brick red and the cream one which is pre-printed with the "angel" definition for accents and stamped the Wendy text at the bottom.

I really like this stamp, and the colour of ink reminds me of sandstone, which seemed kind of right for statues and the challenge. You may not be Dr Who fans (not sure if it's made it to the States, actually, for the internationals among you) but a couple of years ago there was a great (scary!) episode called  "Blink" where these Stone Angels came to life - and the images on this stamp remind me so much of them!! I Googled it for a pic -see what you think. Course, they're not a nice warm yellowy colour, but in my mind they remind me of the Stone Angels!    Ok, it's just me then!

What's on Your Workdesk Wednesday 61

So here we are in August.  And it's Wednesday again, time to gather over at lovely Julia's to snoop round the desks (or floors or washing machines as it takes your fancy) of the world to see who's been doing what. Before I start, I just want to say thanks for all of your comments last week - I had a record number of people dropping by, and I appreciate each one of your comments. Thank you!

I have filled the cake stand from Minxy with all kinds of painty goodies - glossy accents on the top, Claudine's paints in the middle and viva decor paints, Tim's distress crackle paints and embossing powders at the bottom.  Looks good, doesn't it - thanks again Minxy!

When I was taking the paints and powders out of the box they'd been in, (next to my craft sheet/workspace on the floor) I found another pot of Matte Medium - so I had one all along!!! Doh. Still, I am sure it keeps...

Looks like I need to dust off the meltpot though! You can see I haven't used it in a while. Oops!

I got another set of Timmy stamps since we last met (so much for not shopping! -- but they'd been on order a while, so they weren't really "new" shopping, and that's my excuse!)  I did show them the other day, but in case you weren't around, here they are again - Brolly Man. (don't think that's the proper name!) Love him!!

Tag Tuesday - Mannequin

Today's Tag Tuesday challenge has a guest hostess, Sarah, who has asked us to use a Mannequin - you can even download a template here (thanks!) I reduced it on the copier at work (shh, don't tell them!) to get the right size.

I traced round the template onto a tag and cut it out.  I have used tumbled glass distress ink, and the mannequin is then sprayed with a perfect pearl/distress reinker mix for some shimmer.

I have stamped the bottom of the mannequin with a Paperartsy stamp and made a belt with a scrap of material and a metal flower (from a grab bag) threaded on a piece of gold wire.  The necklace came from Jo's bag of unwanted goodies a couple of weeks ago.

I couldn't get a very good photo, sorry!

Compendium Challenge - week 8

One of my favourites this week over at Studio L3 - page 39 of THE book - inking grunge.

Under the rules of the challenge, I can't tell you the exact method,you'll need the book.
I also, like several of the early entries - used the tattered florals die and a mixture of distress inks - and made  a tag.

On the tag I used wild honey and scattered straw., mostly Tim stamps but also the vine by Wendy.

3rd post - GC64 - Yellow, Orange, Red

I have been on a real splurge of creativity today! This time I have done a card for the Gingersnap Creations colour challenge which is to use yellow, orange and red.

I immediately thought of a gorgeous Stampscapes scene using this tropical beach hut scene.  I love Stampscapes images (guess what, I have LOADS) but haven't used them for way too long. All stamps are by Stampscapes.

I started with a brayer adding colour from the Desert Heat kaleidacolor pad but went over it with barn door and spiced marmalade distress inks, the yellow is mustard seed and then I used broken china and tumbled glass for the sea.

I added some extra palm trees at the edges of the tag to extend the scene, a setting sun in the sky and some palm fronds to frame the top, and the sea is a section from the huge Seaside Cove stamp.  This colour challenge is open till 22nd August so do have a go. I'm giving myself the evening off, so I'm ready for tomorrow's Compendium challenge, lol!

2nd post - Stampotique Sketch Challenge

The current Stampotique challenge is to follow a sketch using only
Stampotique stamps this time.






I have taken a large 8x8 inch black card as my base, and stamped Kitty twice and Marcie on white card scraps, coloured them and stuck to pin spotty ribbon before layering them to a black A6 cardstock, then glued some multicoloured fringing (part of my grab bag from Jo I showed you a few WOYWW's ago). I love the colours on that and luckily there's loads left.

I added a little "flower" made from a small offcut of the fringing, as an accent because I (still) don't have any Stampotique text stamps and felt the card needed a something extra.  I think there's a shopping requirement in there somewhere.....!

Old and New from Sunday Stampers

Hels' Sunday Stampers challenge is "old and new" and is also the theme over at the Artistic Stamper's brand new Creative TeamBlog launching today!

For a change, I made a tag - but this time added it to a card.

The "old" of the theme is a bit of a loose connection- but I've tried to go steampunk - which is old, right! and the new - well, the maya road cog chips are new, so is the "imagination" stamp by paperartsy.


I started by using pumice stone and walnut stain distress inks on a square tag, and stamped the cogs stamp (Artistic Stamper) in walnut stain across the middle.
I don't have the AS sequin waste stamp so sponged some ink through some sequin waste on the edges.
I coloured various cogs/gears from the maya road set with chipped sapphire ink, sprayed some of them with a pearl/blue reinker mix and the others were covered with chipped sapphire distress stickles.

The "imagination" stamp was stamped onto a scrap and coloured with the same inks as the main tag, then I added a idea-ology sprocket with game spinner before adding the tag to a card, edged with pumice stone ink.

I had a fab day yesterday at the family diamond wedding celebration party, after rain early in the morning it brightened up and was really hot so we spent the afternoon in the garden - in fact I got quite pink as I didn't think about sun cream! 60 years of marriage is such a rarity these days, so congratulations again to Beryl and Derek (not that they'll see this!) Saw lots of relatives I haven't seen for ages, which was lovely.

Today will be spent getting inky and watching sport on TV - so no change there, then!!
