WOYWW 420 the hot one

Welcome deskers to a very hot WOYWW .  Julia is away on her holibobs but hopefully leaving a linky to our weekly desk gathering here

England is in the grips of a heatwave (I don't like heat but am determined not to moan too much....!)  but it is as much as I can do to drag myself to work and back (no air conditioning in my office, I am not in the posh new one!) so no crafting has been done again..
I have managed to shop though!

Paperartsy are releasing some new stamps by some of their designers this week and so far I've ordered 3 lots (the two that have arrived here and a third in progress!)

hopefully you can make out the images in the two sets at the top, which are by Sara Naumann and will be great for journalling but all kinds of other things too. The bottom two are by Tracy Scott and are fab!
The big star on the set on the right, made me think of comics and the "wham" "pow" explosion type speech bubbles that they use in comics - although it could be that I saw them at the time that Batman (Adam West) died... or is it just the heat doing weird things to me?!

The cable is from my fan which is attempting to keep me cool (but really is just wafting warm air about)

I went to Kew again last Saturday, and took a gazillion photos of poppies (amongst other things) - I know several of you saw the link on Facebook but if you missed it, they can be seen here
Neet, in answer to your suggestion, yes I do intend to make them into calendars one year!
Not sure when I'll be able to visit, depends on the heat - Wednesday today  is meant to be unbearable again! (I am writing this in advance on Tuesday night) I may have to wait till later in the week when it cools down.

WOYWW 284 - a little bit of this and that

Welcome along for another What's on Your Workdesk? Wednesday... I'll start, this day after Armistice Day, with a closer look at the photo of my Dad that was sitting on the workmat the other week,
together with one of my Mum - that's her, sitting on the top of the Spitfire - she served in the Wrens, as an Air Mechanic, working on the Spitfire. This would have been taken some time after 1944 as that's when her service record shows she was enlisted. Hopefully you can enlarge it to see it a bit closer - I look very like her, though Julia thought I looked like Dad. (I can see lots of my middle nephew in him, the more I look at this photo now)
Dad served both in the Army and Navy. This picture was taken at Christmas 1942, as it is noted on the back, when he was in the Navy.
On my desk proper - well actually not, it's the kitchen counter - some flowers I received at work on Monday, from a grateful client whose mortgage application I had helped process to a happy conclusion. It's so nice to be appreciated and to receive a thank you!  And yes, of course I saved the bow! I nearly saved the pretty cellophane, but had to tear it too much removing it!

the "desk" proper on the floor - my normal place of work, as most of you know (and as is stated in my blog header) - and some more new stamps (yes, Mary Anne, MORE!) I took advantage of a post on Facebook from the Stamp Attic announcing further clearance offers, and - erm - snapped up 5 more sets!! Well, it would have been rude to have ignored such bargains!

Finally, another photo from the Tower of London on Saturday
the stunning poppy installation to commemorate the First World War and the 888,246 British and Colonial servicemen who lost their lives. Several of you have visited the post I published on Saturday  and I make no apology for the number of photos I shared on it!!
This weekend I need to crack on with some more Christmas cards as after my spurt the week before last, I've not done any since!  In the meantime, I will get to as many of your desks as I can.

WOYWW 271 - more new stamps!

Good Morrrrrrrrrrrrrnnnnnnnnnnniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing Desk Hoppers... I was so sad, like everyone I know, to hear yesterday of the death of the comic genius that was Robin Williams.  Sitting here writing this post for WOYWW listening to the radio,  many glowing tributes and clips of his films...

But, it's Wednesday (or it will be when you read this!) and you're here to see a desk... or at least, my space on the floor.  and as the title suggests, I've been shopping again!

the 4 sets of stamps at the front, are the new purchases - two sets of JoFY stamps that arrived today (Tuesday time of writing!) and two sets of Sara Naumann stamps, all for Paperartsy, that came at the weekend or Friday maybe.

The box full is a fabulous box of goodies I won on a blogoversary giveaway from a non-WOYWW crafty friend (yes, there are some!) Lesley - and boy it was like Christmas opening it and seeing what was in there.
I will be finding homes for it soon (well probably next week, when I'm off work)  All the rest round about is my normal "desk"!! Rapidly running out of floor... (and yes, I've already got stuff in the hallway...)

In case you missed the post on my photosbyh blog I'll just share this one* photo here with you of the Poppy installation at the Tower of London to commemmorate WW1 from Saturday - if anyone is wondering whether to go - YES if you can, go!! It was fabulous - and will only get bigger and better before November when the final poppy is "planted"
 Staggering. Poignant. Beautiful.
*ok 2!

If you want to know more,or want to buy one of the poppies (I have - wonder which is mine?! ) this is the link you need.

If you come back later, there'll be another post with my DragonsDream TIO tag.. see you then!
