WOYWW 344 -twelfth night

so we say welcome to WOYWW once again. Curious? head here for all the info.  Its Twelfth Night, the last day of Christmas, the day all our decorations have to be down... and my brother's birthday (obviously would have been my sister's too) and I made him a card (as you do)

it's not a particularly good card- I really struggle with cards for blokes!  I stencilled a pattern on a card, and stamped a doorway (new from Paperartsy) and cut open the doorway to hide a crazy bird inside and stamped some more of the images from the stamp plate round the outside
because I was really lacking in ideas!!

But you're here to see my desk..
this large sheet of card is unfurling hopefully to be used in the Wanderlust challenge (see here if you don't know about this year long online class)

it's hiding a pile of stuff (you've seen it before don't worry!) to the side of my computer table.

and the large square journal on the floor (my "desk") is the one I am using for the main part of the course for my classwork.
My first page was shared in the previous post here
I know a few other deskers are taking part.

January is a busy  month for birthdays amongst my crafting friends and I have already had another couple that I've made cards for

this was my friend Miriam's card, I seem to have not photographed Linda's!
the only stamping here is on the paper flower and the stem!

But I've gone on long enough, so I'll let you get back to Julia's for some more desking!

Wow, you really changed your blog around while I was absent. I am so sorry I haven't been by sooner, nor have I had time to visit your Kew post. But I promise as soon as life settles down a bit (now that company have gone and life gets back to normal) I'll be by to visit all the posts I've missed.

That's a great card for your brother, and a wonderful view of your work "DESK" this week. No number yet, but you know where I live, or you may choose to ignore me, although I swear I haven't really ignored you.

Helen, I want to swap knees with you because you are able to work on the floor and get up to tell the tale!! Oh if only!!
Wow- what alot of stash you have there. You look pretty organiused and goes top prove you don't need a fancy studio with everything that opens and shuts to produce good works.Well done you!
Have a happy beginning of the year.

My knees ache just thinking of working on the floor Helen but it seems to suit you well. You have so much stash to hand.
Really hope we can all have lots of creative fun time in 2016.

I was very tempted to join in on Wanderlust but promised myself this year would be devoted to completing all those UFO's, mainly art journals and altered books. Do like your journal page though. What journal ar you using for the course? Diane #35

Well, thing is, you say you struggle and I think your brothers card is proof that you don't - it's a brilliant idea! I love the one for Miriam too, lovely colours, It must be hard having a birthday in January when everyone else is moaning about the month! I know I've seen the oile before...but I swear it wasn't quite as high as the radiator at that stage!

Hi Helen! I thought I recognized you in the Wonderlust group - only because you used the same profile photo! I can't remember whether I sent a friend request or not - I was gonna! I have the exact same scrapbook from Hobbycraft, and also the black one. They were so cheap! But I'm not convinced they are archival quality. They're probably OK for paints and stuff but I wouldn't put my photos in them. If you smell them, they smell kind of acidic. I was going to write to Hobbycraft, whether they could confirm either way, but never got around to it. Love the cards - the fold-out door is a great idea! Happy WOYWW! zsuzsa #39

I love your 'desk' Helen! Great cards too! I was tempted by Wanderlust but as I signed up two years on the run for a course I didn't get my best from, I decided not this time!! It does look like fun though!

Hi Helen. Thought you said you struggled for a bloke card? That's just great for your brother! Well done. Lots of goodies to have a go at there on your "desk" this week.
Have fun with the new challenge.
Thanks for the visit and the comments.
Take care. God bless.

I think the card is a treat - a crazy bird is the last thing I expected to see inside those monumental doors! Looks as though Wanderlust is taking over proceedings. I haven't sourced any A1 paper yet... another thing for the to-do list!

It might have felt like a struggle, but the end result doesn't show it. Love the background colours on the other card.

Ooh, I love the desks of mixed-media artists. They *always* look so interesting - and I'm filled with curiosity whenever I see paints, primers and such! I'll look forward to seeing the results of the Wanderlust Class.

Have a lovely week - see you next Wednesday.

I know what you mean about cards for guys..so hard. When they are tiny you can go with cute animals and things..but when they get old we have to really stretch our imagination. That being said..you did great! I love the very serious architectural look of the outside..and then BAM! a funny bird peeking out. Love it! I also like the very girly one at the end with the ombre background and flower. Thanks for visiting me earlier :) Shel/PaperOcotilloStudio #14

I like the card! That's quite a pile you've got there. I've been working on getting my new craft room all organised. My MIL says it won't stay that way for long. I don't think she's commenting on my housekeeping.

That cut open doorway idea is great! My little boy loves to open doors and flaps in books to see what fun lies behind... I'm sure this will be the same for a big boy when he receives your card! Happy crafting, Max #46 :-)

Hi Helen, love the colours on the card. At the risk of being an enabler, have you been looking at all the new stuff on Tims blog? I can say a lot of money will be changing hands when they get over here!Usually I am sick to death of the sight of anything Christmassy by now, so I don't know whats happening either. Have a great week, Hugs, Shaz #8 xxx

Lol at Judy's comment about knees, Helen! I could never work on the floor in a month of Sundays. The worst part would certainly be getting up! My muscles are affected by my M.E. and I can only get comfortable on certain chairs and use my old wheelchair in my studio - main advantage being I can lock the wheels so it doesn't scoot all over the laminate floor like my office chair does! You are right - my creative space is quite large. It is one of the bedrooms and I had it fitted out with kitchen units. One day (I keep promising this!) I will do a video tour of it. The tidying is making slow progress! Busy week this week so probably won't get much done till next week.

Thanks for your visit and a happy New Year to you too!
Happy WOYWW,

Happy New Year, Helen!
Thank you very much for already visiting me! They say we have the longest Christmas season over here in the Philippines. Our Christmas season ends after this coming Sunday so we still have our decorations up.
I love the contrast of the card you make! Such an unexpected surprise when you open the door, LOL!
Blessings, peggy aplSEEDS@6

Happy New Year Helen! I'm in love with the big journal laying on the ground (but then again, I'm in love with ALL blank books... ha!) It will be a marvelous treasure once it's filled! Happy (belated) woyww, have a great weekend. Love from the Netherlands, Marit #29
