WOYWW 137 nearly didn't happen!

Hi again! Well, it's Tuesday night as I write this and as the title suggests, it nearly didn't, thanks to the non-broadband connection when i got home from work!  Tried ringing the helpline "all lines are busy, please try later".... grrr! Not even a recorded message.

Fortunately after a couple of hours the service came back so here I am...

So, workdesks then?  Well, I've been doing bits and pieces this week, you may have seen some of them here and here.  But tonight, this is my workspace:

some desk calendars that were sent to the office by one of the life assurance companies - the bottom of the pages have a fabulous embossed texture to them that don't show up no matter how hard I try! - not sure if it's supposed to be random or a proper design - and I was going to throw them out, but thought I could do something with them - even if I just use the patterns on something. (thinking chalk or pan pastels.....)

And a couple of tags (for a change, lol!)

This one is finished, (though I think I may add some ribbons or fibres) - I used some new (to me) stamps by Wendy Vecchi and some perfect pearls for shimmer.
This is a throw-away - I really like the background - watered down paperartsy paints and then sanded - it gives such a smoooooth finish I love it!!  but I don't like the stamping on top now!!  Maybe I'll paint over it and start again (I am running low on tags!)

I won't be able to visit many of you till later tomorrow as I have a busy day ahead of me. Work is still - work - but at least I've had December's salary now...... nuff said!!!

Have you seen the fab new logo designs Julia (and her sister) have come up with for WOYWW - aren't they fab! Check her post here for info and here for the best blog hop in the world.

I love the idea of recycling. I think painting that tag would be a great way to go green. Of course, I loved both the tags, so what do I know? Yep, I've seen the logos. Can't wait to see which one she picked.

Great tags. Thats one of the good things about paints if you don't like the finished result you can paint over & start again.

Lovely tags Helen and so glad your internet got itself together in time. Can imagine the panic - on a WOYWW day - unheard of - how dare it!

Great idea to recycle the calendar. It's remembering where we put all the stuff we keep that becomes the problem. Love the tags.

Love the Rules to Live Your Life By!! I try very hard to follow them :D I misread the last one at first, thought it said Never Grow Up rather then Never Give Up. I quite like both versions!!

Everyone seems to be having computer problems - mine keeps throwing me out as well.
Love the green tag but see what you mean about the 'dream' one, maybe the colour of the butterfly needs adjusting.

Loving both tags Helen. glad that work sorted you out finally, can't imagine how difficult that must be for you! Loving the rules to live by, how true...so take point 6 and never give up on that tag. The BG is gorgeous. Love the sanding distressing idea. What ink did you stamp with? If distress, you might be able to wipe of a fair amount of it away, and a bit more paint should do the trick, otherwise i wondered if u could just sand those images to make them more background ish and you might like it more...then stamp another feature in black on top. Well that's what I'd try before starting from scratch with more paint. Look forward to the update.

PS how rude of my blog not to allow you to comment, I shall have a word with it for you!

Fabulous tags Helen, especially the green one. Great idea using the calendars with the textured part. I do save almost everything 'just in case' I can use it!

Thanks for already stopping by my desk.

Hi Helen, enjoyed reading your post. I like the 'rules to live by' stamp in particular - seems like good advice to me :) If only work wasn't such an evil necessity ... you could craft all day long :)) Pleased to hear the salary issue has been resolved. Elizabeth x #99

Hey Helen,

You always have something interesting on your desk and recycling is the way to go, my motto is "if you're not happy with it, paint over it" why not, tis better than throwing it away.

So glad that you finally got paid....phew, that must be a huge relief.

Take care, Lin x

Love your tags - you would call that a throw away? My standards are obviously way too low!! Thanks for popping by to see me Cindy #36

I really love that butterfly tag, such a beautiful soft colour. I am hoping that as this year progresses, my room will get tidier as I use up more of my stash. Tidiness, at the moment, is whether I have enough room to play with the brayer and inks. Have a good week. xx Maggie #70

Yeah, paint it and do more to it...it would be an inch thick before I decided it was ok, you're so clever at putting texture and images together. Very glad to read that work is well, work on the remuneration front at least.....makes the decisions a bit less emotional based. Hey, I like the way that Lin refers to your 'desk'!!!
And double hey..best blog hop...it's the people...

Great tags, definitely recycle that second one if you're not happy with it. Great recycling on the calendars too, I'm sure you'll think of something to do with them!

Fun tags and that's an interesting idea to sand down over your painting. Hmm.... I just might have to try that. Great idea to reuse the embossed parts from the calendars. That could be fun to play with.

I wonder if you ended up painting ovr your tag, or if you left it overnight, whether it looked better to you in the morning. Sometimes it's hard in the moment to know if you really like what you've made. . .
