WOYWW 389 - well under way.. and an oops moment..

Morning (afternoon/evening -delete as appropriate)  and welcome back for another WOYWW with Julia...  the crop will be here before we know it!
The weekend just gone was very wet (Saturday anyway) and I was determined to spend as much of it as possible making Christmas cards..about time too!

this is the floor on  Tuesday evening...
the result of the weekend's labours...
Mostly penguins (a gorgeous stamp from Katzelkraft) and based on a video I saw linked on Facebook from Marta  (Maremi's Small Art) hopefully this link will work...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WQuDmN6MF0

(you may need to copy and paste it into your browser)

which I watched on Saturday morning before going out in the rain to do my shopping.
Instantly inspired to use the idea as a starting point for some Christmas cards.

Now.  I mentioned an oops moment... some of you saw what happened on Facebook/twitter.. I was colouring the texture paste on the penguin cards. Put the bottle of Prima ColourBloom Spray (Cobalt, if you're interested!) down on the craft mat, using the end of the spray to add some drips to the card...
Cue slow motion bottle falling over, ink flowing out onto the scrap paper on top of the craft mat, and slowly (but quick enough) onto the edge of the rug and carpet ...

oops indeed.   You know in cartoons when things slow down and you can't move?

It was seconds before the thought "that's going all over the rug" permeated my subconscious enough to "pick the bloody bottle up"

Once I'd mopped up as much as I could and cleaned my hands I took some pictures.. tweeted them  and posted to facebook, as you do in this modern age... someone later asked if I'd grabbed my journal to produce a background.  No, I hadn't I said... the paper towel in the bin was still quite wet... so grabbed it out and pressed it onto the journal page... nice!  the left side I smooshed around a bit to get solid colour, the right side  I left with the impression of the kitchen towel - two backgrounds... And yes, I have now saved the kitchen towel, now dried and a lovely blue... surely something can be done with that too!

At some stage I will wash the colour out of the rug, it is water based ink after all... but for now, it's staying .  a reminder to my (laziness) carelessness (the craft sheet is wider than the cutting mat underneath it, so of course I chose that bit to put the bottle down, causing it to tip... )

You will also see from the first picture some more cards in progress - the yellowy ones are from one of my masterboard backgrounds, and there are some stamped images waiting colouring and matting and layering onto card bases.
 Have a great week everyone.

Such cute penguins. They will go great on your Christmas cards.

I can empathize with you on the ink on the carpet. I have one of those stains I'm still not able to get up, even though I have three (count them THREE) craft mats down. Somehow it missed and spilled onto the one small spot not covered by these heavy mats. I wish you luck in getting the mess cleaned up.

Not playing, but just stopped by to say hi.

Must go and look at Marta's inspiration - I have done workshops with her, she is lovely.
Certainly an oops moment and a fortunate one for the journal, fortunate if it comes out of the rug of course.
Have a great week - and no more spills.

Love the sketchy, soft look of those cards. I am a really clumsy person . I have been known to walk into walls and doors, and paint....eeek!
I try not to paint in my sewing room for that reason!Your happy accident might just look quite stunning later.I usually spill beads on carpet- nothing happy about that clean-up job.
Have a great rest of the week.

Well you seem to have managed to save it - despite the catastrophe as it were - those ink bottles and that ink - just gets everywhere doesn't it - your cards are gorgeous though!

Ohh Helen your ooops moment sound just like me concentrating so hard on the creative effort you're careless in placement. Just fur record I did the same with India waterproof ink and it was on top notch pale green carpet of the flat I rented!!!! Eeeek indeed, mercifully quick work and good old eucalyptus oil rescued it for me.
Love those penguins they're just brilliant!!
Happy WOYWW! Thanks for sharing,

Hi Helen, those penguins are adorable and make brilliant cards. I've been working on a crazy bird one (just below todays post) but will have to try and simplify it if I am able to make several, will have to see. Have a lovely woyww and happy crafting, Angela x 16 P.S. back later to look at the link, hugs Angela x

I can just hear you shouting 'Noooooooooooooo' in slow motion as the ink inevitably escaped - sorry, but I did laugh! It brought back the feeling when I'd see a child starting to do something terrible from across the other side of the classroom knowing I just wasn't going to get there in time :-D
Love the penguins so much, what great cards they'll make!
Hugs, LLJ 8 xx
PS Oh and the lunch is going to be nothing spectacular so don't build your hopes up too much!!

Oh dear re the spillage - reminds of a long, long time ago knocking a bottle of ink over in dining room - when I was still at school!!! Filling up a fountain pen - see said it was a long time ago!!!:-) mum and dad were not happy bunnies! Like the penguins!!! Anne x #14

I've got to admit to having a real chuckle at your description of your accident with the ink....I almost felt in the room with you and I'm sorry to say I didn't pick it up in time either. Thanks for sharing.

Shame about your rug....but your rag looks lovely! Like tie die. The cards, too, are magnificent. I really must ink up my grumpy penguins too. Good luck with the clean up. Lx

Oh Helen. I confess your description of the slow motion fall was so brilliant I ended up laughing - but HONESTLY, I'm not laughing about your poor rug !!! I'm glad you salvaged something though, in the form of two page backgrounds! I do hope your rug recovers from its shock.
Your cards look great - and the penguins look fun. Glad you are enjoying the technique.
Are you going across to the crop? I have decided to go this year as well. Even booked myself a B&B...
Do you really like the stars? Thank you... I just played, then thought I hadn't done enough, then thought I'd done too much.... oh dear! The star is for someone I hope will appreciate something a little less quirky...
Take care. Dear girl.
God bless

I think we all have an oops moment on our carpet/floors and rugs in craft rooms. At least you have made good use of that great colour.

Ooooh! I hope the air didn't turn as blue as the ink! Good to see the rescue gave you a couple of backgrounds and some tissue mop up! I must say these stamps have tempted me several times but I have talked myself out of them!! They have made great cards I must say! Hugs, Chrisx 32

Love the cards! I like the penguins. They look great, not all cuddly like most look (and I admit to using on my cards!). Sorry about the spillage, hope it didn't cause too much colouring to the floor.

Oh dear, Helen! Forgive me. I couldn't help laughing at your oops moment - it's they way you tell it :) Hope you do get the colour out of your carpet - eventually. Love your card toppers but those penguins! Not the usual cutesy happy feet we usually see. In fact, they look just as you would expect creatures living in below zero temperatures to look - bad tempered!!

Happy WOYWW and have a wonderful week.

Hello Helen. I love your cards and the penguins are simple to perfect......sorry about your opps and hitting the carpet. Hope you can get it out as I have a dark over cast on my carpet from a spray which no one has noticed to much but I for sure see it. Have a wonderful week Hugs ~Anne L#19

What a wonderful set of penguin cards... thanks for sharing the stamp maker with all of us. and Oooooh... what a large puddle you created! Grin... been there... now have NO carpet in my workspace, just laminate and still the floor is stained with paint and gesso and inks... (although it does scrape off the laminate quite nicely.) Loving the backgrounds in your journal this "little" accident created! Thanks for the visit and lovely comment you left me earlier and Happy WOYWW from Lynne in Canada #2

Oh bugger to that, washing the rug! Would never happen if it was mine! I have stains on the laminate where I've dropped re-inked or new Stazons...they always land face down!! The penguins are amazing, I love how once you've got an idea, you go all prolific with it.

Lindart said...

If I didn't know better, I would say that that is MY desk! LOL! Except I tend to make my cards one at a time. Don't know why, I really should do some mass producing! I like the Masterboard idea, maybe I will try that one next. As for spilling things onto the carpet, that's why I now have wood floors in my "nest" and no more carpeting! Good idea to save some of the mess in your journal - I love pages that start out like that! Thanks for sharing, Lindart #41

Your cards are so fun! I know your pain with the spilling on the carpet... there's a permant hard spot where my ModPodge spilled and I couldn't get to it fast enough. ❤️ Have a great week! ~Heather~ #47

Those penguins are so cute!!! I read the other comments about your ink and I agree with them! I have a vinyl floor in my craft room just because of accidents like yours! Thanks for the visit and hope your week goes great!

Hello Helen,

Drats, that sort of thing most definitely would happen to me. Although the projectile would start on the desk... farther to go and spread out. Glad you made use of the ink and saved your paper towel. Somewhere I have paper towels from a class I took. Somewhere in the many boxes....

The Christmas cards look great! Love the penguins.

Thank you for visiting me already. I'm sneaking in some visits....

Happy WOYWW

I love the penguin cards. I am going to make my Christmas cards as soon as I get home. I am to the point it is WOW Christmas is here! Have a great week! Vickie #52

I love that you used the mishap to make something pretty in your journal! I recently used deli paper to clean my Gelli Plate and then used it on one of my scrap pages. Loved the look! Thank you for stopping by earlier. #40

Oh my, I can't even take the slightest chance of leaving anything open when I craft, my cats have a tendency to jump up on the table at the worst possible moment. They've walked through glitter, embossing powder and ink, I can't imagine what they would do with paint! Isn't it funny how when things like that happen we sort of look at it like oops and then it dawns on us, gee I should clean that up!
Thanks for the visit!

Oh dear, poor you, Helen with your ooops moment! I save all my kitchen paper with ink on it, and have a box of nicely maturing sheets, and I grab one with the same colour scheme that I am working with, so I don't end up with mud colour on them all. Once they are nicely coloured, they go into a pizza box for storage. You can pull them apart because they are 2-ply, and get double for your money. I love the rich colours. They are great for collaging and backgrounds and for making "hand-made paper" with gel medium etc. and the addition of sparkly bits too. All great fun. Hope you get the ink out of the rug!

I love your penguins! They are adorable.

Thanks for your lovely comment - so glad you like the cat card. My GP appointment was fine this a.m. - just bloods in readiness for my oncology appointment next week, which I am sure will be fine too. Today I've been baking most of the day as I was running out, and we've got our monthly cancer informal group meeting tomorrow (monthly cake guzzling session lol!) and I couldn't disappoint the girls by going empty handed! Lemon drizzle cake, shortbread and about 50 mince pies! I shall make up a selection to take tomorrow.

Happy belated WOYWW,
