WOYWW 268 - 23.7.14

Time for another hop skip and jump round the desks of the worlds - check out the link up here
Not much to show today - a started journal page for a Paperartsy challenge - some new stash (of course!) - the Tim Holtz stamps/framelits die set - truth be told the butterflies are a bit tricky to die cut, the dies kept sliding off the stamped image when I put the top cutting plate on top, when I first tried them - but they'll be fun to use.  The Eiffel Tower however works a treat !
Just need to find something to use them on now...
Do you ever buy stuff and not know what you're going to use it for?

Short and sweet for me today, just like Julia likes it!!

Hey Helen
Sure we all have stuff we haven't used but I am a firm believer that if we bought it eventually it will be used as long as you don't loose it :)
I found the best way using a stamp with die is to flip the stamp over with ink on it and drop the paper on top of the stamp and press with a block on top then peeling off the paper from it. That's what works best for me.

Often (buy stuff and not know etc) but it does you good to buy something that takes your eye. It is bound to be of use some day. (says the million stamps I have tucked away unused - slight exaggeration on the number).
Have a lovely week.

I wonder have you tried the low tacky tape so hold the die down over the stamped image so when it goes through the die cutting machine it will stay in place .
Not that I've tried this but I remember somewhere i'd seen that ( might have been YouTube)
Anyway happy woyww Jill #16

Why dont you try putting the dies onto a magnetic sheet and then the cs on top then the die wont slide anywhere

I like that stamp/die set. I usually use a low tack tape to hold my dies in place, painter's tape. Or you can use washi tape to hold your die in place. #7

Mm know what you mean, Helen!!!

... but was given a good tip once to never buy a stamp unless you can think of three cards you are going to make with it!!

I must admit dont buy many of them thse days :D so maybe works? happy WOYWW Shaz in Oz.x #8

I see you are getting lots of advise on how to make the dies stay still, I use painters tape or a post it note. They are the best as they are not as sticky. In fact if you watch a Prima video on how to do it, they use post it notes. Soon you will have to put shelves up in your passage for all the new stash you have to make space for you to work on the floor!

Some very good ideas for the dies...if you hadn't already stamped the butterflies...you need x ray vision! Place the die over the image and then secure it with a post it or something like it...I actually use washi tape, but don't tell, everyone will freak at the waste!

Like the new Tim stamp and die set! Very nice ... I use a bit of tape to hold my dies in place .

Hi Helen, I'm always buying stuff with no idea at all what I'm going to do with them....I like to stroke things for a while before deciding :-)

Oh yes I am guilty of that, I bought two sets of couture creations, cut-emboss-stamp sets that have never been used. bought a Cinch binding took years ago, sold it this year without if every having left the box! That was my worst one. I haven't bought any new stuff for a while now (months) as I lost my job. This has made me look at what I have in a new light though

My name is Cindy said...

That set is still on my desk unopened - I'll let you know how I get on with the butterflies. Had no idea what I would do with this set but liked the butterflies and thought it might be more useful to have the dies than buy the plate they usually come with. Happy WOYWW Cindy x

I like your new stamps/framelits die set! I love Tim Holtz products too, and have several dies that I haven't used yet. However, I know I will use them eventually. I just used 2 of them yesterday, one of which I bought a couple of months ago. Happy WOYWW and Blessings!

I took a little trip out yesterday and pondered purchasing this same framlets set! I put it back on the shelf deciding I didn't really need it and now, seeing yours, wish I had gone ahead and purchased it!

Well, the answer to your question would most definitely be "YES". I buy without a specific use in mind - simply if it is an item I like/love/think I will use "sometime". This means, of course, that things sit for ages before being used.. (ahem - don't tell the man, will you?)
Thanks for visiting - yes some fantastic surprises this week. Such wonderful blessings.
Take care. God bless.

A little bit of washi tape or painter's tape will hold your dies in place while they go through the cutter.

Lots of great creative things on your desk this week!

Thanks for stopping by my blog earlier and for the nice comments.

Are you kidding!!??? I buy stuff because I like it! Who knows if it will get used. That is why sometimes, I think I am a colletor!
I would have bought that Eiffle tower if I had seen it. I have one DIL that I would use it on cards for her. :) Happy WOYWW #39

Hi Helen, some good ideas above re. the die, I normally use low tack tape to stop the stamped image from slipping while I die cut it. Happy crafting, Angela x #44

I used to tear up Post-it notes and use a strip of that to hold the die in place. Now I have the magnetic platform for my Bigshot which is even better. Hope you find something that works for you.

HI Helen. Oh yes, I a always buying stiff and not know what I am going to use it for. I also had the same problem using the die on the stamped image, low tack tape seems to be the answer, but it is expensive.
thanks for visiting earlier.

Love love love the Eiffel Tower! Hope you are enjoying the warmth though I know you are having much higher temps over that side of the country! Melting here but I love it and enjoy sitting out to read. Thanks for sharing. Take care Zo xx 55

Hi Helen,

Hmm, I've seen that set and anticipated buying it - now I wish I had! You've gotten lots of tips regarding how to use the stamp and die.

Yes, I seem to buy stuff that I know I'll use "somehow" but haven't yet. It's kind of like my clothes, I always wear the same things.... could drastically reduce what's in my closet!

Thank you for visiting me! I'm hoping to finish my desk hopping today.

Happy belated WOYWW
Peace, Kay (65)

Tee hee - I have those Framelits too - but not started cutting yet. Isn't there some way of magnetising them to stay put or something? Or did I dream that? Not going to get to play with mine for a while yet I fear... look forward to seeing what you get up to.

I agree that I've bought stuff I didn't immediately use. I find it months, maybe years later, and wonder what prompted me to buy it. But eventually, it gets used, and hopefully, just at the right time.

BTW, I adore that Eiffel Tower. I suspect that will show up in your art soon.

I have a roll of low tack masking tape that I use for my dies like that and it makes things stay in place. I do love the look of your new stash, you never cease to amaze me with something new. So sorry for getting back to you so late in the week, life has been busy, too busy. I do hope you forgive.
