The oh so talented and poppy mad Brenda has a challenge on her blog to make something with poppies or using the colours of poppies. As I too am a fan of the poppy (would love to recreate the Cadbury's Flake advert with the poppy field... if I could just find one!) I had to have a go.
I have made a fairly simple card using one of my favourite poppy stamps (I have a few!) This is by A Stamp in the Hand
I stamped the poppy image on white card in grey ink (Memento London Fog) so I could use watercolour pencils over the top to colour the image. Not sure if you can see in the photo but I added some blue shading round the edges too. The sentiment is from the Art Sayings stamp from Sam Poole for Creative Expressions.
Brenda has a Sir Stampalot voucher on offer for one lucky winner, and there are a couple of days left to take part.
Ok, off to watch some Olympics - wasn't the Opening Ceremony fantastic? It probably worked better if you understand your British history, but I did history to A Level so....!!! There are some images burned onto my brain, wonderful stuff, well done Danny Boyle and everyone involved.

Good morning Helen,
The ceremony was fabulous wasn't it, I did wonder what some of the more remote countries in the world would make of it, especially the NHS beds. But all of us especially both like you and I love our history it had great meaning.
Now I can't wait the games themselves to start and I'm keeping everything crossed that Mark, Bradley and the gang go off to a flying start down in your neck of the woods.
Your card is totally stunning, and I said to somebody earlier this stamp with one of my very early buys many years ago and still gets great use.
I think you have proved in your card the poppies are such beautiful flowers they often need little else to make a statement.
I'm so pleased you found time to join in my little challenge, it was all started the fun and I've loved seeing all the lovely entries, yours included.
Have a good weekend, enjoy the sport.

Fabulous card Helen, I love poppies and yours are gorgeous and work so well with the Art Sayings sentiment. Lovely. Enjoy the Olympics. Tracy x
LOVE the simplicity of the card Helen - letting the poppies say it all. I love poppies too but somehow they are only ever seen as flowers of sadness at a time we remember what's lost and you have bought them to the fore as a beautiful flower in their own right! Fabulous! Oh! And 'Go Team GB'!
Wonderful card, Helen, love those poppies!
Awesome poppies they look almost real
Your card is fabulous, poppies are such a gorgeous subject, such noble plants!
