WOYWW 518

Welcome deskers it's Whizzday again already!   WOYWW if you prefer...
An extra day in the UK for May Day bank holiday means a nice short working week but also that it's time to share our desks again so soon!
but what's this?!  a piece of paper...

ha ha, it is hiding some atcs in the making for the anniversary swap and the crop..
I thought I'd better get a move on with them.

but I am not showing you yet!

I also did a bit more to the journal page I shared last week, the white stencilled flowers are the bits I didn't like (well actually I liked the white flowers, it was the outlining I did in black pen that I didn't, on the right hand page...) I had stamped a second image of the face I used on the 70th birthday card from last week,  on another piece of tissue, and fixed it over the worst part of the outlining.    I did mean to do more to it but the atcs took over (they're not finished yet either!)

I spent several hours at Kew on Saturday (of course!) arriving for the 8am opening... so beautiful at that time of day - even if it was flipping cold! -  the light is wonderful for photos, and it is so peaceful (apart from the Heathrow flight path)   I took nearly 700 photographs this time round and condensed (slightly) them into the blog - you can see it here if you have time!

Several of you have commented how nice it is to live close enough to go each week (nearly every week)  - it takes me around an hour depending on the trains or the buses so it's not too bad at all.  As I don't have a car, I have no idea how much quicker it would be by car, but there is limited parking there anyway, so the train takes the strain as the old ad used to say!

  1. Morning Helen. I am saving up swaps for the crop as I am so busy at the moment and it will save on postage. I will have a tag for you to choose from if you are interested. I love how the page is developing and actually like the white flowers, outlining and all. Happy WOYWW. Sarah #4

  2. I love those areas of white space too, I find them very calming. White space is not an easy thing in journals. Love how she pops out the page Helen although I do have a slight obsession with faces :))
Have fun with those ATC's & Happy WoywW Tracey #5 x

  5. I’ve been to near where you live and believe me, driving to Kew from there wouldn’t be as easy, I don’t think you’d go so often if you had to drive each time. Pigging roads! Now you’re making me panic about ATCs, I really must push myself into the room of grit and start to get them out of my head. I think that’s why I haven’t started them...for fear that the idea will turn out to be pants!! I like the outlines on the flowers, how different we are. The face looks ghostly, no...more apparition-y. Gawd, I shan’t be trying to interpret your art, I can’t even do mine!

  6. As we say in music, the rests are just as important as the notes - and so it goes with white space, I think! We have to have it but are nervous about doing so. Hope the ATCs go well, looking forward to seeing you at the Crop!

  7. Love that face image. Looks so good on that journal page.
Even if I had a car I would take the train to Kew. I just cannot imagine driving in London, Manchester is too bad for me these days. But then I never drive anywhere now. Stick to your train!

  8. Hi Helen,The journal page looks great I think. I really like the outlining, but we all see things differently, don't we? Parking in London is crazy, isn't it? It was actually cheaper for us to book into a Travelodge for Monday night, and get free parking, than it was to park the car for a few hours for the concert! Have a lovely week, Hugs, Shaz #3 X

  10. Happy WOYWW. Well done on making a start with the ATCs. Nothing happening here yet. It may well be last minute! One hour on public transport to Kew sounds wonderful. I have always loved it there (except for the planes!). However, we are surrounded by our own fields, and the coast is only 5 minutes away, which is rather lovely too. Ali x #25

  12. Fabulous journaling Helen, I love the white flowers, they are beautiful and tranquil, and the face is very dramatic - such a different feel to each page, but equally eye-catching. Will be back later to see Kew as I'm busy today and catching a few minutes here and there to do comments, and I need a spare half hour and a cuppa when I visit your Kew pics!
    Have a great week,

  17. I have to say I would not even consider driving into London. The M25 is close enough for me, and that not too often. I think the outlining makes the white areas pop. xxx Maggie (Silvercrafter) #24

  18. Hi Helen, there's a lot of teasing and secrets around desks this week - yours is no exception. Seven hundred is a huge amount of photos but you live Kew and you take fabulous photos so why not! It makes more sense to let the train take the strain - driving into London is my idea of a nightmare. Have a great week. Elizabeth x #27

  23. I love the face emerging from the flowers - so dramatic - and with the powerful shadows around the face, you hardly notice the outlining of the petals opposite. Gorgeous!

  24. HI Helen, I think an hour is still time well spent. ( there is really not anything comparable even anywhere that close to me, probably more like 5 hours one way in either north or south directions) and still not really comparable. I love that you have blank spaces inside those petals too. and I had to laugh over the hidden surprise cards under construction. ~Stacy #31

  25. I do like how your art journal page turned out! I thought of skipping the ATC swap this year but my fingers start to itch so I might create some... after all, it IS a big anniversary this year. Thanks for stopping by my blog the other day, I am late with my return visit so instead of happy 'Wednesday' I wish you a nice weekend! Hug from Holland, Marit #22

  30. ah the ATC's sneeky peekers are out and about :-)
Love that you can keep reworking a journal page if it doesnt work for you. I must admit I often never know when to stop fiddling with my pages but I particularly like the white stencil flowers on the left page, may have to try adding white paint over some of my pages, thanks for the inspiration.

As to Kew, I LOVE seeing your updates.
